About Jason
Jason Charchan is one of the most popular and sought after trainers in Los Angeles with a current and past client list that includes Professional athletes, actors, and models as well as everyday people of all shapes and sizes. Among his current and past clients are some of the world’s most popular athletes ie; David Beckham, USA Soccer’s All-time Leading Goal scorer Landon Donovan, Future Baseball Hall of Famer Nomar Garciaparra and cover model Esmeralda P. to name a few.
His approach to fitness is both unique and compelling. He uses a three dimensional to push people to the next level and get them out of their comfort zones. His training style could be described as “intelligent bootcamp” meaning that he pushes beyond your comfort level but knows when to back off to prevent injuries. This approach has been extremely useful and effective to help numerous people lose weight, gain muscle mass, increase flexibility, decrease stress, prevent injuries and increase self-confidence and esteem. Most importantly, helping them to realize that you only fail if you give up and that anything is possible you work hard enough.
Jason was born and raised in the small town of Standish, Michigan growing up with sisters Rebekah(his TWIN sister!) and older sister Sarah. He developed a passion for sports from a young age particularly hockey and baseball. After struggling with a weight problem and since childhood and being teased and picked on by his classmates, he starved himself to lose weight. He became depressed and disappointed with the lack of results and from that realized that there must be a better way. He struggled for a few years but ultimately found exercise to be an outlet and developed a passion for it as well as proper nutrition. After graduating Standish-Sterling Central high school he attended Central Michigan University graduating with a Bachelor of Science in both Health/Fitness as well as in Psychology. While in College he began personal training and also trained at him hometown gym during the summers. He found that he had a great impact on the lives of others and decided that he would devote his life to helping people achieve their goals. Following college, Jason trained at the world renowned Athletes' Performance Institute learning the secret training methods used by elite athletes. There he trained athletes and regular individuals in both 1-on-1 and group settings. In addition, Jason practices what he preaches and is one of the industry's top Fitness Models and is a competitive 5k runner. He has appeared in Muscle & Fitness Magazine, been an advisor for Maximum Fitness Magazine, has competed with both FAME & Musclemania, and most recently has appeared in an infomercial for the home gym called the “Transform 12” as well as a “Gym Rat” in the Hit NBC series “My Name is EARL”. Jason is certified with the American Council on Exercise and EFTI and currently trains Privately in West Los Angeles and in Hollywood.
One thing that was a huge obstacle for Jason was his LOVE for FOOD!!! Like many people overweight he got caught in the trap of processed junk food and fast food. He even had the local pizza delivery number memorized. He knew he wanted to be in shape but yet didn’t want to deprive himself and eat only bland tasteless food. As a result, Jason began to study nutrition and healthy cooking techniques/recipes at age 14 and is always trying to come up with substitutions for “junk foods” that will satisfy his cravings. He monitors all of his clients nutrition intake with food journaling, created and maintains his own fitness website(www.superstar-training.com) and mails out a weekly newsletters with fitness and nutrition tips as well as a healthy recipe of the week. He believes that you should NEVER eat any food you don’t enjoy and that you shouldn’t feel like you are going to “DIE” of hunger when you are on a “DIET”. He believes that lifestyle change is the key and with this approach has help dozens of overweight clients lose up to 60 lbs of bodyfat!
In addition to working out Jason enjoys to stay physically and mentally active and displays this with his zest for life, living each day to its absolute fullest. Some of his favorite things to do outside of the gym are cooking, biking along the beach, reading, downloading the latest music, writing, web design, and following his hometown Detroit sports teams. The one thing that is the most important to him is to challenge himself everyday, step out of his comfort zone and to live a life without regrets as well as to inspire others to do the same.
Jason also enjoys giving back to the community. Being brought up in a grounded family he is regular church attendee and is active in his community. He participates in many non-profit events such as the relay-for-life walks to find a cure for cancer and other fund raising events. Ultimately, Jason wants nothing more than to make a difference in people lives and to “change the world, one body at a time”.
